I love both versions, but the disney one is very catchy! My 8year old bro just got hooked on Ponyo and has already memorized the English non remixed version and the remixed versoin of the theme song! He loves the movie and watches it every week!

the disney version is kind of catchy, but i prefer the older version. i love miyazakis movies and i think they shoulnt be messed with since theyre beautiful without disney editing it.

In the film (English-dub), it starts with a slower version before the fast version kicks in (during the latter part of the credits).

Oddly, I found the fast version to be kind of catchy/cute (I don’t claim to have highbrow taste in music, and I regularly visit Disneyland), but my four-year-old son does prefer the slower version.

I’ve voiced my opinion on the Disney version of this theme tune in various places already, but there’s no harm in doing it again: it’s crap. There are no words to describe how ridiculous the Disney version is. It has absolutely no connection to the film and completely and utterly bypasses any kind of thought or reasoning.

I mean, who did they employ to come up with this rubbish?

Just Played it to my three year old girl (can you say target audience???) with a big smile on my face and she looked at me and said ‘i not like it mummy’ she loves the original even though she gas no idea what’s being said. It’s a happy song, she likes miley Cyrus and all that jazz too so… Think the new ones a major fail!

This is the first time I heard the English version after having heard the original Japanese since the last year I’ve been in Japan.

Good god who thought *THAT* would be a good idea? Especially after the ending of the film, it just completely kills whatever mood built up. It’s like ending Sesame Street with Green Day.
