[...] So due to my adventures things have been pretty quiet on the site - and sadly I’ve come back to a pretty chaotic life here in the UK. Work is hectic, social life is busy, domestic life seems to be drowning in admin jobs and on top of all that I’ve been trying to get some new top-secret projects off the ground. As a result the next week or so might not see much activity either, but stay tuned: normal service will be resumed before you know it. Coming up: reviews of Miyazaki’s Ponyo, Mariko Koike’s novel The Cat in the Coffin and Volume 5 of Tezuka’s Black Jack. Plus I’ll finally get round to looking properly at Eden of the East and Shangri-La. Oh, and I think all the Cuban sun has given me an urge to finish checking out Michiko to Hatchin….
There is actually a City of Men film as well, that is definitely worth watching if you are a City of God fan, I actually haven't seen the show but should probably check it out. Definitely take a look at the film, it actually just came out a year or so ago.

Thanks for all the feedback and links guys - I appreciate it. As always feel free to link to me as often as you like ;)

@Andrew - yeah, the City of God/Men influences are really clear - I haven't seen much of City of Men (only a few episodes, sadly) but i guess it kind of catches it's sense of humour as well.

Great review, this is may favorite show on "TV" right now. I am a huge fan of all the creators involved. There are few studios and people that get me excited to hear about something new, and Manglobe is definitely one of them.

I have seen up to episode 15 and I can't wait to see more. It has such a since of playfulness that I as an animator can really appreciate. They aren't afraid to leave the standard style behind for a minute and have some fun with the look and feel of a scene.

One of the best parts about this series is a strong since of influence from films like City of God, and the more recent City of Men. Fernando Meirelles seems to definitely have some influence here, and it is a good thing. The range of characters is also phenomenal.

I am so glad to see that there are smaller studios in Japan that couldn't care less about the vomit inducing mainstream animation scene in Japan. Like the great films and series before it, it is a shame that Michiko & Hatchin doesn't get more recognition.

I will likely be heading to Japan soon and there are 2 studios that have my eye, Studio4C, and without question Manglobe. I can't wait to see what they begin working on after this one.

I may feature this on my site as well, I have been wanting my other friends in animation to take a look at this, and now they have a great overview.
